Art of Living

THE ART OF LIVING

Dr. Don Ajith Rohana Colonne is a student of Ananda College (Colombo), Thurstan College (Colombo) and Ananda Sastralaya (Kotte) in Sri Lanka. From 1974 to 1975, he attended the Loveland High School in Colorado, USA under the American Field Service (AFS) Cultural Exchange Scholarship Programme and graduated from there.

Upon his return to Sri Lanka in 1975, he entered the University of Colombo and got a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1979. Subsequently, he obtained the Master of Business Administration Degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura in 1994 and the Master of Arts in Economics Degree from the University of Colombo in 1996. In 2014 he obtained the Doctor of Philosophy degree from the International University of America.

DR. AjithE Collonne's lecture on art of living  is the most interesting lecture that i ever heard.AS he said we live in this word because of three reasons.

1)Happiness
2)Entertainment
3)Enjoyment

According to him When we Think about art of living - there is an art to everything and living well is no exception. Of any art, this would be the one to master since it encompasses all the others.  The art of living well is to make your life an expression of who you are , what you believe, and your hopes, dreams and desires. Of course, to create your life as a work of art is an ongoing, evolving, and creative endeavor. And so it should be.

Happiness

1.    Appreciate the nature

He discussed  how he enjoyed birds signing in his bunglow working in the military firm. And how beauty is his village daraniyagala and came to know it gets the highest rainfall in sri lanka

2.    You have to be a giat tree not a normal one or a vine which destroys the giant trees.

3.    He said in enjoying nature just take photographs and leave nothing behind its really heart touching.

4.    Have to enjoy the life with music and other stuff

5.    Need a time for relaxing
·       While his discussions he shared his experience in the National Intelligence services which he is currently supplying to the country. And how he came to his job

SUCCESS

1.Positive thinking
-Gave the example of half filled water glass it was quiet useful and how to think positively.
2. Self Confidence-Bill Clinton
3. Dedication with a runners example
4. Ready to face unexpected falldowns and should be careful with the people who are close to us.
5. Strategic thinking
6. Having the best Knowledge
7. Superstitions – How these things can be used to win the life and he shared his personal experience how to motivate ourself using those things and having mental relief.

We can make an art of living well by expressing ourselves, by being open and receptive to new experiences, and by living each moment to the fullest. We need only decide to do so.
So finally  we must thank a lot for Dr. Ajith Collonne for  conducting us a such a interesting amazing lecture on " Art of living" by combining his own life experiences 😌😌😌😌😌

Beauty Of University Of Kelaniya

About university of Kelaniya

The University of Kelaniya has its origin in the historic Vidyalankara Pirivena, founded in 1875 by Ratmalane Sri Dharmaloka Thera as a Centre of learning for Buddhist monks.
With the establishment of modern universities in Sri Lanka in the 1940s and 1950s, the Vidyalankara Pirivena became the Vidyalankara University in 1959, later the Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Ceylon in 1972, and, ultimately, the University of Kelaniya in 1978.
The University of Kelaniya has pioneered a number of new developments in higher education. It was one of the first universities to begin teaching science in Sinhala and the first to restructure the traditional Arts Faculty into three faculties: Humanities, Social Sciences, and Commerce and Management And also Computing faculty.
It has several departments not generally found in the Sri Lankan University system and some Kelaniya innovations have been adopted subsequently by other universities. These include the Departments of mathematics ,Physics, Chemistry and Microbiology in the Faculty of Science; Departments of Linguistics, Fine Arts, Modern Languages and Hindi in the Faculty of Humanities; and Mass Communication and Library and Information Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The University of Kelaniya is the First State Green University and it has Beautiful Places.

Cancer

One of Current Major Problem in the World

Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Not all tumors are cancerous; benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body.
Cancer is the name given to a collection of related diseases. In all types of cancer, some of the body’s cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues.

Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Normally, human cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place.

When cancer develops, however, this orderly process breaks down. As cells become more and more abnormal, old or damaged cells survive when they should die, and new cells form when they are not needed. These extra cells can divide without stopping and may form growths called tumors.

Many cancers form solid tumors, which are masses of tissue. Cancers of the blood, such as leukemias, generally do not form solid tumors.

Cancerous tumors are malignant, which means they can spread into, or invade, nearby tissues. In addition, as these tumors grow, some cancer cells can break off and travel to distant places in the body through the blood or the lymph system and form new tumors far from the original tumor.

Unlike malignant tumors, benign tumors do not spread into, or invade, nearby tissues. Benign tumors can sometimes be quite large, however. When removed, they usually don’t grow back, whereas malignant tumors sometimes do. Unlike most benign tumors elsewhere in the body, benign brain tumors can be life threatening.

How Cancer Arises

Cancer is a genetic disease—that is, it is caused by changes to genes that control the way our cells function, especially how they grow and divide.

Genetic changes that cause cancer can be inherited from our parents. They can also arise during a person’s lifetime as a result of errors that occur as cells divide or because of damage to DNA caused by certain environmental exposures. Cancer-causing environmental exposures include substances, such as the chemicals in tobacco smoke, and radiation, such as ultraviolet rays from the sun. (Our Cancer Causes and Prevention section has more information.)

Each person’s cancer has a unique combination of genetic changes. As the cancer continues to grow, additional changes will occur. Even within the same tumor, different cells may have different genetic changes.

In general, cancer cells have more genetic changes, such as mutations in DNA, than normal cells. Some of these changes may have nothing to do with the cancer; they may be the result of the cancer, rather than its cause.

"Drivers" of Cancer

The genetic changes that contribute to cancer tend to affect three main types of genes—proto-oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, and DNA repair genes. These changes are sometimes called “drivers” of cancer.

Proto-oncogenes are involved in normal cell growth and division. However, when these genes are altered in certain ways or are more active than normal, they may become cancer-causing genes (or oncogenes), allowing cells to grow and survive when they should not.

Tumor suppressor genes are also involved in controlling cell growth and division. Cells with certain alterations in tumor suppressor genes may divide in an uncontrolled manner.

DNA repair genes are involved in fixing damaged DNA. Cells with mutations in these genes tend to develop additional mutations in other genes. Together, these mutations may cause the cells to become cancerous.

As scientists have learned more about the molecular changes that lead to cancer, they have found that certain mutations commonly occur in many types of cancer. Because of this, cancers are sometimes characterized by the types of genetic alterations that are believed to be driving them, not just by where they develop in the body and how the cancer cells look under the microscope.

Cancer Treatment

There are many types of cancer treatment. The types of treatment that you have will depend on the type of cancer you have and how advanced it is. Some people with cancer will have only one treatment. But most people have a combination of treatments, such as surgery with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. You may also have immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or hormone therapy.

Clinical trials might also be an option for you. Clinical trials are research studies that involve people. Understanding what they are and how they work can help you decide if taking part in a trial is a good option for you.

When you need treatment for cancer, you have a lot to learn and think about. It is normal to feel overwhelmed and confused. But, talking with your doctor and learning all you can about all your treatment options, including clinical trials, can help you make a decision you feel good about. Our Questions to Ask Your Doctor About Treatment may help.

(Last day i did not attend PPD session..I went to Maharagama Cancer Hospital with my mother to see a patient.so i think to write Article about Cancer)

Barter puzzle

Barter Puzzle

“Not another dumb company team building game,” says the displeased employee. Ouch. When this thought crosses your employees’ minds, you can pretty much throw the benefits of team bonding games out the window.

The Barter Puzzle

Time: 1 – 2 hours

Number of Participants: Seven Members

Tools Needed: Different jigsaw puzzles for each group

Rules:
Have everyone break off into small, equal-sized groups. Give each group a different jigsaw puzzle with the same difficulty level. The goal is to see which group can complete their jigsaw puzzle the fastest. However! Some pieces will be mixed around in other group’s jigsaw puzzles. It’s up to the team to come up with a way to get those pieces back — either through negotiating, trading, exchanging team members, etc. Whatever they decide to do, they must decide as a group.

Objective: This activity will rely heavily on problem solving and leadership skills. Some team members might stand out and some might stand back, but it’s important to remember that the entire team must come to a consensus before a decision is made.

Finally Our team got 2nd place from that game and we archived that target work as team.

Team building activities and games are supposed to be not only educational, but also enjoyable. They help the team learn about each other.

Outcomes for each person ,
                                 1.Thinking
                                 2.Decision Making skills

PPD

Personal Progress development

What is Personal Progress development ?

Personal Progress development is a lifelong process. It is a way for people to access their skills and qualities, consider their aims in life and set goals in order to relies and maximize their potential.

Why PPD ?

PPD helps us to identify the skills we need to set life goals which can enhance our employ ability prospects, raise our confidence and lead to a more fulfilling, higher quality life. Plan to make relevant, positive and effective life choices and discussions for your future to enable personal empowerment.

Why is Personal Progress development Important ?

There are many ideas surrounding personal development, one of which is Abraham Maslow's process of self-actualization.

Self-Actualization

Maslow (1970) suggests that all individuals have an in-built need for personal development which occurs through a process called self-actualization.
The extent to which people are able to develop depends on certain needs being met and these needs form a hierarchy.  Only when one level of need is satisfied can a higher one be developed.  As change occurs throughout life, however, the level of need motivating someone’s behavior at any one time will also change. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.  Physiological Needs, Safety Needs, Love and Belongingness, Esteem Needs, Cognitive Needs, Aesthetic Needs and Self-Actualization.

  • At the bottom of the hierarchy are the basic physiological needs for food, drink, sex and sleep, i.e., the basics for survival.
  •  Second are the needs for safety and security in both the physical and economic sense.
  •  Thirdly, progression can be made to satisfying the need for love and belonging.
  •  The fourth level refers to meeting the need for self-esteem and self-worth. This is the level most closely related to ‘self-empowerment’.
  • The fifth level relates to the need to understand. This level includes more abstract ideas such as curiosity and the search for meaning or purpose and a deeper understanding.
  •  The sixth relates to aesthetic needs of beauty, symmetry and order.
  •   Finally, at the top of Maslow’s hierarchy is the need for self-actualization.

Maslow says that all individuals have the need to see themselves as competent and autonomous, also that every person has limitless room for growth.
Self-actualization refers to the desire that everybody has ‘to become everything that they are capable of becoming’. In other words, it refers to self-fulfillment and the need to reach full potential as a unique human being.
For Maslow, the path to self-actualization involves being in touch with your feelings, experiencing life fully and with total concentration.

"A person is having two kinds of skills that make him remain in the society and the world."

  • Soft Skills
  • Academic/Professional skills

PPD helps to develop a person's soft skills…….

What are the soft skills?
